Results of the competition for 560 vacant positions of judges in local courts

To implement part one of Article 79-5 of the Law of Ukraine “On the Judiciary and the Status of Judges”, the Commission has completed interviews with 434 candidates for the positions of judges within the competition for 560 vacant positions of judges in local courts announced on September 14, 2023.

The list of candidates for the position of judge and the results of the Commission's interviews are available at the link (in Ukrainian).

Based on the results of the interviews:

  • participation of 8 candidates was terminated (at their request);
  • 36 candidates were denied recommendations for appointment to the position of a judge;
  • 390 candidates were recommended for appointment to the positions of judges in 266 courts (223 women and 167 men), of which:
  • 29 candidates (16 women and 13 men) to 15 administrative courts;
  • 26 candidates (18 women and 8 men) to 17 commercial courts;
  • 335 candidates (189 women and 146 men) to 234 general courts.

The average age of a candidate recommended for appointment to the position of a judge following the competition is 42 years.

Data on recommendations for appointment of judges by region:

  • Vinnytska Oblast – 19 candidates were recommended for 15 courts;
  • Volynska Oblast – 10 candidates were recommended for 7 courts;
  • Dnipropetrovska Oblast – 31 candidates were recommended for 18 courts;
  • Donetska Oblast – 1 candidate was recommended for 1 court;
  • Zhytomyrska Oblast – 21 candidates were recommended for 16 courts;
  • Zakarpatska Oblast 9 candidates were recommended for 7 courts;
  • Zaporizka Oblast – 12 candidates were recommended for 7 courts;
  • Ivano-Frankivska Oblast – 11 candidates were recommended for 11 courts;
  • Kyivska Oblast – 28 candidates were recommended for 19 courts;
  • Kirovohradska Oblast – 13 candidates were recommended for 10 courts;
  • Luhanska Oblast – no candidate was recommended;
  • Lvivska Oblast – 14 candidates were recommended for 10 courts;
  • Mykolaivska Oblast – 16 candidates were recommended for 14 courts;
  • Odeska Oblast – 37 candidates were recommended for 20 courts;
  • Poltavska Oblast – 22 candidates were recommended for 18 courts;
  • Rivnenska Oblast – 7 candidates were recommended for 6 courts;
  • Sumska Oblast – 6 candidates were recommended for 6 courts;
  • Ternopilska Oblast – 10 candidates were recommended for 7 courts;
  • Kharkivska Oblast – 41 candidates were recommended for 15 courts;
  • Khersonska Oblast – 3 candidates were recommended for 2 courts;
  • Khmelnytska Oblast – 13 candidates were recommended for 12 courts;
  • Cherkaska Oblast – 20 candidates were recommended for 16 courts;
  • Chernivetska Oblast – 7 candidates were recommended for 7 courts;
  • Chernihivska Oblast16 candidates were recommended for 12 courts;
  • Kyiv – 23 candidates were recommended for 10 courts.

It should be noted that, as of May 28, 2024, 70 of the recommended candidates were appointed to the position of judge for the first time by decrees of the President of Ukraine.
